Good afternoon, my dear fellow teachers. This is my first time here .And It’s my great honor to share my teaching thinking with all of you. This is a reading passage from Unit 5.Do you want to watch a game show? of Go for it in Grade 8.First .let me introduce my teaching goals, teaching importance 、difficulties and teaching methods ,teaching aids.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Teaching Goals:(教学目标)
1.Words and expressions:
(1)culture, famous, appear, become, rich ,successful ,might, main , reason ,common ,film ,unlucky, lose ,ready ,be ready to ,character, simple.
(2)think of, over 80 years ago, come out ,one of the main reasons ,such as,
(3)a. When people say “culture”, we think of art and history.
b. We all know and love the black mouse with two large round ears. c. It was the first cartoon with sound and music.

2.The students can get the ways of reading by working with a group, by studying themselves. And improve the reading skills.
3.Learn from Mickey--- always try to face any danger ,be always ready to try his best。

Next, the teaching procedures. At the beginning of this part, I led in the topic with a mixing songs from cartoons. Then opened books at what we would learn today, leading into Mickey with a picture.
Then , I gave some questions to have fast reading. From this part I wanted the students to be familiar with the general contents about this passage. These questions were very easy. The student might get more confidence through the question answering.
Teaching procedures(教学过程)
Step1.Greeting and leading in
Hello , everyone! Nice to meet you. Do you like cartoons? What is your favorite cartoon? Why do you like it? (Ask these three questions, Ss can answer together and or choose two or three students to answer it .)
Please open our books at Page37 and look at the picture, telling me what we will learn today.
Good, I bring Mickey to our class .Please say hello to him.(show the picture to Ss) What does he look like?(He has two large big ears).
Step2.Presentation
1.Fast reading. Read the first paragraph quickly and answer the following questions.
(1).What do people think of (想起) When people say “culture” ?
(2).What is the very famous symbol (著名的象征)in American culture?
(3).What’s the name of (…的名字)the cartoon?
(4).Who is the main character (主要角色)in this cartoon?
(5).What does he look like(看起来像) ?
(6).When did this cartoon first come out(出现,出版)?
2.To introduce the history about Mickey Mouse.
Next, read the whole passage by following the tape. This step I hope the students can read aloud and get the right pronunciation. And be familiar with the passage in a deeper way. Then went on answering the questions. And got more information about t he contents.
Step3.Reading
1.Read after the tape ,paying attention to the pronunciation.
2.Answer some questions. Read Para1 carefully.
(1) Who created Mickey Mouse?
(2) What was his first cartoon?
(3) Who is his girlfriend?
3.Read Paragraph2 carefully, answering the following question
Why is Mickey Mouse so popular?
Answer: He is like a common man, but always tried to face any danger. He was always ready to try his best. People want to see “little man” win .people want to be like him.
From this part I hope the students can learn from Mickey. Learn trying to face an danger in study ,learn being always ready to try his best. Then I gave a say to them “ keep on going, never give up.”KEEP THE SPIRIT OF MICKEY IN MIND .Then watched the movie Steamboat Willie, to get the spirit of Mickey in a specific way.

5.Read Paragraph 3 carefully, answering the following questions
What happened to Mickey on November18,1978?
On November 18,1978,Mickey became the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame .
To check whether the students master the main idea of the passage or not .

Step5.Discussion.
1. Read the passage together.
2. Discuss the following questions with a partner.
(1) What is Mickey Mouse a symbol of ? What cartoon is a symbol of Chinese culture?
(2) Can you think of another cartoon character that is as famous as Mickey? Why is the character popular?
(3) Do you think Walt Disney is a smart man? Why or why not? Do you want to be like him?
Step6. Summary
Retell the passage, using the contents in blackboard designing.

1. To memorize what they underlined in the passage today.
