      Jim knocked on the door of the manager's office.
      "Come in,"a voice called out. Jim entered the room.
      "Ah, just take a seat, will you, Hall" the manager said.
      "In fact," Jim said, "my name isn't Hall. I've come about…"
     "Your name isn't Hall?" the manager stopped him."But that's the name I've got in my diary here.
Who are you then?"
      "Turner."
      "How strange!" the manager spoke out loudly."I'll ask my secretary about this. Perhaps she can
explain it."
      He picked up the phone. "Come in a moment, will you, Mary?"
      His secretary came in and he showed her his diary.
      "Look," he said, "you have made an appointment (约会) for a Mr Hall at nine-thirty on Monday-and
in fact. Mr Turner has come."
     "Well, sir," his secretary said." you are looking at the wrong page of your diary. Mr Hall's appointment
is for next week."
     "I haven't made any appointment for Mr Turner," the secretary went on."Well,"said the manager,
looking at Jim, "What are you doing here?"
     "I've come here about a holiday job." explained Jim."My father spoke to you about it.He said you
wanted to see me this morning."
      "Oh, you're Mr George Turner's son! Well, why didn't you say so in the first place!"
