Every four years players from all over the world take part in the Olympic Games, Both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games are held every four years.The Winter Olympic Games are usually held two years before the Summer Olympic Games.     The old Olympic Games began around the year 776 BC in Greece and the modern Games came from the old ones. Many of the sports were the same as they are now.Women were not allowed to take part in the old Games.     After about the year 393 AD the Olympic Games stopped. For centuries there were no Olympic Games. But they were not forgotten.       The first Olympic Gamcs in modern times happened in 1896. They were held in Greece—theGames were born in the country. In the 1896 Games there were 311 players from just 13 countries. After that more and more countries took part in theGamcs.In the 27th Sydney Summer Olympic Games in 2000, the Chincsc team got 28 gold medals. In theWinter Olympic Gamcs in Salt Lake City,the UnitedStates in 2002, the Chinese team got its first two goldmedals.     One of the great competition is not for a medal.It is the competition between countries to hold the Olympic Gdmcs.
